Kazuri
KERAMIC JEWELRY FROM KENYA
Kazuri means "small and beautiful" in Kisuaheli. This is the name of the handcrafted ceramic jewelry, which is manufactured in Kenya for mekhada.
With the aim of providing livelihoods to single mothers, Lady Susan Wood founded a small manufactory in 1975. The jewelry has found many enthusiastic fans all over the world. Today, about 280 Kenyan women earn a living at Kazuri.
The beads are intricately individually shaped by hand and their surface is being smoothed. After firing for the first time, they are glazed, partially painted and then fired again.
By pure handwork, the beads are never the same, it is this what makes the irresistible charm of the Kazuri jewelry collection. All metal parts used are free from nickel.
